Decor on a Dime is closing the storefront on or before Sept. 1st. We thank you for consigning with us and I have copied/pasted the letter that was sent out on June 4th below.

Dear Consignors:

I hope this message finds you well. I am reaching out with an important update regarding Decor on a Dime. After much consideration, I have made the difficult decision to close our brick and mortar shop on or before September 1st depending on how soon stock depletes. Once closed, I will continue with online only sales. There have been several factors that have made me come to this decision including my health, my family needs and bleak post covid in-store sales/vs overhead.

If you wish to leave your items here on consignment you may however we need to start discounting aggressively as I have to vacate before Sept. 1st. If you prefer to retrieve items right away please email us with the subject line: retrieval so that I can easily find your request quickly and pull your items off the floor before we begin the liquidation process. I will email you once your items are ready. Please pick up your items ASAP within 1 week at the most as we do not have much room in the back to store items.

While we are preparing for closure, there is still an opportunity for you to sell your items if they have already been approved for the next few weeks on a shorter term; however all items will be subject to aggressive discounts as we liquidate our stock. Items that are already here in the shop will also be part of the liquidation sale. That being said, please consider leaving your items with us at least during the early part of the liquidation process as prices will only be reduced by 20% off for the start of this sale which so you would be losing a small amount.

Here is an example of how a discount will slightly lower your payout but it’s still out of your house :)

Current price is $25.00 and you get 40% so you would get $10. Discount of 20% off would be

$25 less 20%=$20 x 40% = $8 so it would be a $2.00 difference for the first few weeks using $25 as a mid price point.

Although the physical store is closing, I am excited to share that Decor on a Dime will  continue to operate online, with a dedicated focus on Annie Sloan Chalk Paint products and JJ Orr designer jewelry. I will be running the wholesale distribution for Annie Sloan (supplying all of the Ontario retail locations) as well as the online orders for these fantastic items, ensuring that our customers still have access to high-quality, trusted products.

Some of you may have been in the shop with items in the last week and if so I apologize, this opportunity to terminate my lease early just happened last week and I was not comfortable sharing  my potential plans as I felt it needed to be finalized and signed before I was able to make a formal announcement. This opportunity was also unexpected so for those of you that have recently brought in items I sincerely apologize.

Once again; If you have any questions about your items, payments, or the timeline, please feel free to reach out and then check back on the website for the FAQ’s in a few days once I compile a list.

I truly appreciate your support and partnership, and I hope to make this transition as smooth as possible for you. Thank you again for being part of Decor on a Dime. It has been a pleasure working with you and being a part of this community. I also want to add that I am happy about this change and feel it is time to scale back my business so that I can have a better work/life balance.

Change to store hours

During the liquidation I will be shortening the hours/days that we are open so that I can start to move the paint and organize the storage location for the paint distribution. Please check the website for updates as hours change. I will post the new hours on our website. 

Liquidation timeline

Note: All dates are subject to change based on sales, stock levels and other factors. Because I will be busy with the sale and wrapping things up I will not be able to individually communicate exact dates to every consignor. Instead I will add info to the homepage on the website by 9pm every Wednesday evening giving details of the next discount on or after Friday. If we announce a discount you are not comfortable with please email us saying you wish to pick up your items and we will remove them from the sales floor and allow you 1 week to retrieve. Items left more than a week will be put back out for sale as we will not have room to store them.

Lastly, I know you may be apprehensive about your items and funds. Please rest assured, I am staying in business online and I will be reachable by email or you can find contact info on the website: decoronadime.ca should you forget a payment, however any items left in the store once we fully vacate will be donated or disposed of and will not be compensated or returned.

Payments and balances owed to you: Payments for any sales may be arranged by either coming by the shop or emailing us if the store is closed before you are unable to pop in. Rest assured, all consignors will be paid what is owed and there is no need for everyone to rush in at once. I am running low on cheques and expect I will need more so I have ordered them and they should arrive mid to late next week. If you can hold off till after the 14th that would be helpful as I don’t want to run out but I don’t want to inconvenience anyone so if you are in the area and it’s more convenient do come in as I have a few left. I just need a few days for the new box of cheques to arrive.

Monthly account maintenance fee: I will eventually need to wrap things up so starting Nov. 1st I will be adding a monthly maintenance fee to each account with a balance owing of $15.00/month. This will only apply to unclaimed funds so that I can wrap up this part of my business.

 

Pick up guidelines:

  1. For furniture, please call ahead so that we can have it ready for you
  2. We sometimes do work alone so please bring help if you need someone to carry items out or discuss with one of our staff to see if we can find a way to help facilitate delivery.
  3. Come to the back double doors and knock. We hear it in most parts of the store. 
  4. Don’t forget moving blankets or boxes/wrapping supplies
  5. Items that can’t be found are very likely still here. If items are not found please give us a couple of days. We often find items hiding in plain sight after looking for ages for them.

Some items will be excluded from the sale; These items are:

-Paints, and any tools that go with them such as brushes, rollers etc.

-JJ Orr Designer Jewelry

-All items made by local artisans, Artisans; Please arrange to pick up your items in the next 2 weeks otherwise they will become part of the liquidation.

  1. Now till June 20th:  20% off
  2. June 21: 30% off  
  3. July 4th: 40% off
  4. July 11th: 50% off
  5. July 18th: 60% Off
  6. Aug. 1st:  70% off
  7. Aug 8th: 80% Off
  8. Aug 22: 90% Off – "Final Days Blowout!" Market this as the absolute last opportunity to purchase remaining stock before liquidation concludes.
  9. Aug 31 Store closed, all remaining items will be donated/disposed

Note; The store may close before August 31. It will depend on how fast the inventory depletes.
